Education Needed​

A PhD is often needed in order to enter into the field of Paleontology. Some of the highly regarded schools for this field include: University of California, Chicago, Michigan, Kansas, Iowa, Ohio State, Cincinnati, and Texas.

 

Classes to Take at HHS

  • One class available at HHS in the U-LINK class where students apply their skills with being in the STEM+ program

  • Math classes will help you get a good base to prepare you for college coarses

  • Biology and other science classes to gain knowledge needed

Classes to Take During College​

  • Requires vast knowledge in natural sciences, with a combined focus in geology and biology. 

  • Biology

  • Geology

  • Paleontology

  • Modern languages, mathematics, chemistry and physics classes are needed to do statistical analysis

  • Computers knowledge is also necessary for a career in modern paleontology

Getting Field Experience

Gaining first-hand field experience in paleontology is a great way to apply the knowledge gained in the classroom. You can do this by doing an internship or job shadows, or even joining on a dig. Gaining early experience is also a great thing for your resume.
